I'm Mark, and I restore decks across Nelson City, Stoke, Richmond and Tāhunanui, bringing tired, grey decking back to life so it looks good and stays protected for years to come.
A deck restoration is only as good as the prep work behind it, rushing the clean and skipping the sanding is why so many stain jobs peel within a year. I take the time to get the surface properly clean and dry before any oil or stain goes on, so the finish actually lasts through a Nelson winter. Whether it's a small deck off the back door or a big entertaining area, I treat it the same way: properly.
Not every deck needs the full restoration. If your timber is still in good shape and just looks grey and grubby, a deck clean on its own might be all it needs. I water blast off the dirt, algae and mould, then let you know honestly whether it's worth oiling or staining afterwards. No pressure either way.
I'm based locally and cover the whole of Nelson City, plus Stoke, Richmond, Tāhunanui and Atawhai. Decks in Tāhunanui and Atawhai cop the salt air and tend to grey faster, while the sun-baked decks up in Stoke and Richmond often need a bit more sanding before the stain goes on. Wherever you are, I'll come and look at it in person before quoting.

A lot longer than most people expect. A good oil-based finish soaks deep into the timber, so on a properly prepped deck it lasts around five or six years and only needs a light freshen up now and then. Oil can't be water blasted off either, unlike water-based finishes that sit on the surface and wear away.
Just clear the deck of furniture and pot plants, I'll take care of the rest.
Yes. If the timber is sound and just looks grey, a water blast clean on its own can be enough. I'll tell you straight if I think it needs oil or stain, but it's your call.
Oil-based, every time. Oil penetrates the timber instead of sitting on top, so it's far more resilient and lasts years longer. Think about trying to get oil off your hands compared with water-based paint, that's the difference. Water-based finishes look fine at first but wear off the surface and can be blasted away. I use oil-based products on every deck I restore.
Spring and autumn are ideal. The timber needs to be fully dry before oil or stain goes on, so a few settled days with mild temperatures is what we're after. Summer works too, as long as the deck isn't in blazing sun while the finish is drying.
